• With permanent, full-year distance learning no longer an option for students and families in Rhode Island, WMS is transitioning from last year's one-size-fits-all virtual-learning model to a more personalized grade and age-appropriate approach to servicing our at-home learners. Each of our grade-level teaching teams has designed cohort-specific plans for their at-home students and curricula. These plans are ever evolving as our curriculum and online resources and platforms expand and vary across grade levels with a common thread: all students learning at home experience both personalized and guided asynchronous elements in all academic subjects with co-curricular collaborations.

    GRADE 3 EXPECTATIONS

A ParentSquare post will be sent to parents/guardians of students who are in isolation/quarantine by one of their core teachers.

Students will be invited to log into two Google Meets for live instruction and/or directions as appropriate (one for each teacher). A schedule for the times of the Meets will be in the ParentSquare post. Both of the Google Meet links will be on the student’s Google Classroom pages. This will afford students the opportunity to receive some of the instruction that he/she/they would miss due to being in a state-mandated and/or school-mandated quarantine. The students will be expected to complete all work that is posted on Google Classroom or given by the teacher during the duration of his/her/their absence to the best of his/her/their ability. If students have questions during the day outside of the Meet, they will be encouraged to reach out to his/her/their individual teachers via email. If parents/guardians have any questions, please also reach out.

    The teacher will:

    • Post assignments on Google Classroom
    • Open the Google Meet at the beginning of each scheduled time
    • Make classroom instruction available through Google Meet or Google Classroom
    • Meet with the student upon return to assist in transition back in in-person learning
    • Respond to emails as their schedule permits

    The student will:

    • Check email on a regular basis (as appropriate to grade level)
    • Sign into each class Google Meet as instructed
    • Check Google Classroom for assignments
    • Email the teacher if you have any questions or concerns you need addressed
    • Meet with their teachers when back in-person to turn in any hard-copy work and make sure all assignments have been completed and turned in

    The parent/guardian will:

    • Be aware that classroom assignments are available through Google Classroom (Classwork Tab at top of screen)
    • Encourage and/or assist their child(ren) to log onto Google Meets at the appropriate time(s)
    • Assist in keeping their child(ren) caught up in instruction
    • Assist in transitioning back to in-person learning
    • Email the teachers if they have any questions or concerns

For an optimal experience and easy access to all their resources, students should be logging in for school on their WMS-issued Chromebook whenever possible. In the event a student does not have access to his/her/their own device, they can access school resources via Clever.
